Resume Tips
A well-prepared resume may not lead directly to a job offer, but it will improve your chances of being considered for a position and perhaps help you land an interview. Here are a few suggestions for submitting a resume to Microsoft.

Layout Tips
  • Include your name, office and home phone number, and Microsoft e-mail alias at the top of your resume.
  • Provide sufficient white space so that so that managers and recruiters can identify your key skills, projects and accomplishments without having to read the entire resume. > Don't spend too much time on graphics or cool fonts. > Don't indulge in long, detailed paragraphs. Use easy-to-read one line statements instead.
  • Use present tense for your current position and past tense for previous positions. > Use most of the space to focus on work you've done in the past 5-7 years. Unless you are interested in jobs that map to skills used prior to that time, limit descriptions of older work to just 1 or 2 key accomplishments. > If you include an objective, make it straightforward, concise, and related to the job you are seeking.
  • If you include a professional summary, make it concise with no more than four to six statements, which are your top credentials. > List your educational background. This should be near the bottom - for an experienced candidate. > Provide a chronological view of your background, including dates and positions held.

Content Tips
  • Make certain your resume is up-to-date and clearly describes your strengths, past jobs, and expertise> To show that you are more qualified than the competition for the positions you are seeking, present specific accomplishments and achievements: percentages increased, accounts expanded, awards won, etc.> Provide a description of the specific positions that interest you, and your skills and qualifications, so we can best match your abilities and interests with appropriate positions in our company.
  • Be factual and don't exaggerate on dates or titles. A background check that discovers inaccurate information could immediately disqualify you from consideration.> Use statements to describe your key skills, projects, and accomplishments. Ideally, keep each statement to one line. Focus on your accomplishments as well as responsibilities.

Articulate scope and impact of responsibilities and accomplishments (Team, Group, Division, cross organization, customer, etc.).
